Referral Redesign: What changed?
1. The Profile EMR generic referral replaced the team-based referral in PARIS
Every client in the EMR now has a new Profile EMR generic referral created for them.
For new clients to the EMR, the EMR Registration Form will auto-create the Profile EMR generic referral.
PARIS users cannot update the Profile EMR generic referral.
The Profile EMR generic referral:
- will never be closed
- cannot be updated by users
- acts as an indicator to PARIS users that an EMR Record exists.
Currently, the PARIS user may click EMR Quick View to see where and when the client has received service at an EMR Clinic, as well as other pertinent information.
2. The EMR user may update the POS in the EMR
The user may add or remove a PC POS or ALT POS on the Yellow Bar or through the EMR Registration Form

EMR Registration Form
The EMR Registration Form was deployed in 2020 with the ability to auto-generate the new Profile EMR generic referral. It also included some bug fixes and improvements.
The EMR Registration Form is the interface between PARIS and the EMR.
- It will automatically create a generic referral if one does not exist for the
client - The user can update a client’s demographics and alerts; which will then be
passed back to PARIS.
All EMR Clinics should now use the EMR Registration Form to register patients.
- Clinics that still use the PARIS Team-based referral can continue to do so; but the EMR Team is actively trying to reduce the use of the VCH/PHC EMR Referral. This PARIS referral no longer affects the client's PC POS and ALT POS, and causes confusion with workflow processes.
The Profile EMR Generic Referral in PARIS
When creating new clients using the EMR Registration Form, the PARIS User will not see new referrals for EMR Clinics on the left referral tree. Instead, the Profile EMR generic referral acts as a breadcrumb, indicating that the client has an EMR record. The user can click EMR Quick View to see an EMR summary for the client.
