Background
These are instructions for the Seiko Smart Label Printer 620, which has been approved for use by Technology Services. If you have a different label printer, contact the applicable vendor for support.
Use the Label Printer
These are the steps you would follow if the label printer settings have already been configured. If not, see Appendix 1 - Configure Settings for the Label Printer.
1. Click the Label icon in your Shortcuts Toolbar.
2. Search for and select the client you wish to print labels for.
Note: If you already have a client populated in the yellow banner, skip to Step 3.
3. Select the appropriate label template (e.g. Address, Specimen).
4. Change the number of labels you want printed.
5. Click OK.
Appendix 1 - Configure Settings for the Label Printer
Each label printer should be used by only one computer and be plugged into any USB port of that computer.
Note for laptop users: Use the same USB port each time you plug in your label printer. If you use a different USB port, you will have to reconfigure your label printer every time.
Smart Label Printer Properties
- Go to Printer and Scanner settings on your computer
- Select Smart Label Printer 620 as following:
- If you were logged into Profile EMR prior to making changes to the printer settings you will need to logout and login again before proceeding with the below steps.
Label Printer Settings in Profile EMR
1. With the label printer plugged into the selected computer, log into EMR and click on the Label icon.
2. Search for and select the client you wish to print labels for.
Note: If you already had a client populated in the yellow banner, skip to Step 3.
3. Select the Specimen label as a test label.
4. Click OK.
5. In the Print Setup window, select the following settings:
- Printer: Smart Label Printer 620
- Orientation: Landscape
- Size: SLP-MRL multi prps(28x51mm)
- Check off the “Always use specific Printer settings for this report on this computer” tickbox
6. Click on the Margins tab and use the following settings, and click OK to print:
Note: If your settings display inches (in) instead of millimeters (mm), use 0.12 for all four margins.
7. If the label printed correctly: print a second label (follow Steps 1 -4). This time, when you get to the Print Setup window, check off both tickboxes (see screenshot below) and click OK.
Now, every time you go to print a label, it will remember your settings and print directly without displaying the Print Setup window first. This reduces the number of steps it takes to print labels.
If you want to see the window again to change your print settings, hold the Shift key down before you click OK to print:
Appendix 2 – Troubleshoot Windows Display Setting
If the computer has been upgraded to Windows 7, it is important NOT to change the default display settings. Changing the default impacts the label printer setup. If you are having troubles with printing labels, make sure the Windows display is set to the default (Smaller – 100%).
To change the Windows display to the default setting:
1. Open the Windows Start Menu (bottom left-hand corner of your computer screen), and search for “display”.
Step 2. From the results, click on Display to open the display settings.
3. Make sure Smaller - 100% (default) is selected and click Apply.
Appendix 3 - Order Labels for Smart Label Printer Model 620
You need to order the correct labels from Grand and Toy. They are SLP-MRL Multipurpose labels 1 1/8” x 2” (28mm x 51 mm) SKU #IM326920 and have 2 rolls per box (this size was chosen because it fits properly on the test tubes and specimens).
