Add AdHoc Investigation to Current Order (Pathology and Radiology)
Background
This procedure describes how to order investigations, pathology and radiology, for a patient within Profile EMR.
Order Pathology
1. From New Encounter, go to the Actions panel and click on Pathology
2. Use the Available Tests area to search and select the investigation(s) you wish to order.
There are 4 tabs available from which you can add investigations to the current order:

Preferred Tab:
- Lists investigations/investigation sets most frequently ordered. List is organized alphabetically
- Use the scroll bar to search for a specific investigation/set

Find Tab:
- Use the Find tab to search the investigation library for investigations and investigation sets that are not available in the other tabs
- Type the name or part of the investigation or set into the search box and click the Find button to populate a focused list

Set Tab:
- List of customized investigation sets organized alphabetically (e.g., amenorrhea workup, MHSU Metabolic Monitoring)
- Use the scroll bar to search for a specific investigation/set
- Note: If approved by your Practice/Program leadership, new order sets may be requested by emailing EMRHelp@vch.ca.

Standing Tab:
- List of standing orders previously created for the client.
3. Select an order Order the lab test(s), by either double clicking on the name or drag and drop it into the Current Order field:
4. If needed, from the drop down, select the lab the patient is to attend. You can leave it to --Take To Lab of Your Choosing -- : BC if no specific lab is needed.
5. Enter Clinical Details as needed as shown below.
Note:
- If you want to copy another clinician for the lab result, use the Prov, CC, Pay tab and enter the details
- If you want to create a standing order for individual investigations, use the Standing tab and tick Standing Order checkbox then edit duration and repeats as needed.
6. Print the requisition.
Note: If your signature is electronic has been uploaded into Profile EMR, it will automatically print. If you do not have an electronic signature, manually sign the requisition. If you’d like electronic signature added to EMR, please complete the EMR Clinician Checklist.
Tip: Some investigation requisitions are generated from Forms eg. PHSA Virology, Serology testing
Order Radiology
1. From New Encounter, go to the Actions panel and click on Radiology

Tip: For a Radiology order, you can specify the side by right clicking in the order, selecting side from the menus that appears, then select left, right or both. This displays in the Information column.
Note: Some investigation requisitions are generated from Forms eg. MRI
Add AdHoc Investigation to Current Order (Pathology and Radiology)
For investigations not listed in any of the tabs, you can add an ad hoc investigation to the current order
1. Click on the Ad Hoc icon
2. An Ad Hoc Investigation Window will pop-up. Type the desired investigation name and then click OK
3. The Ad Hoc investigation will appear in the Current Order Window
4. Complete the remaining steps required for Pathology/Radiology requisitions
